Saturday the 18th of September, saw the first annual Belgium National Touch Championships being held. With glorious weather and a sporting turnout, it was an excellent day enjoyed by all.
It was also the first official trial for those who expressed interest in playing for the 2011 Belgium World Cup Team.
Only days before the tournament, there was a sudden increase in numbers of players who wished to be considered for the team. This is extremely encouraging for Touch Belgium as it increases motivation and pushes competition higher within the team for those wishing to play in Edinburgh next year.
The 2011 Selection Panel were out and about with their 'Selection Criteria' on hand, and duly noted comments on all players who are trialing for the team. Overall, the Panel are impressed with the level of all the players, and feel that next years team will be stronger than expected. With further trials to be announced, it appears the Selection Panel may just have some difficult decisions ahead of them.
The overall winner of the Belgium National Touch Championships was the Kituro Team. They proved to be a highly competitive team, and very hungry for the win. They managed to hold of The Deviants in the final to win the first annual championship. Congratulations Kituro.
And as one Belgian tournament wraps up, another unfolds with the Brussels Celtic hosting their annual tournament this Saturday, the 25th of September. It is another chance to shine, and the Selection Panel will be attending again to measure up some of the players who were unavailable last week. So remember to play hard again to impress them!
Further trials will be organized, and a coach soon to be announced. So watch your emails, and this space for further details.
Good luck for the Brussels Celtic tournament!!
